CHINESE SAILORS.
ACCUSED OF INSUBORDINATION". By Telegraph—Press Association. Dunedin, Last Night. l'-ijiht Chinese seamen belonging to (lie German steamer Walkure were arrested this afternoon on a charge of disobeying lawful commands. They were subsequently charged before Mr. Jlaselili'ii. S.M.. in Hie Police Court, and pleaded not guilty. Mr. Scurr, who ap))eared for the accused, contended that the Court hod mi jurisdiction, as section 342 of the Shipping and Seamen Act exempted foreign ships from that portion of the Act dealing with foreign deserters, unless an arrangement had been made with the '.'uiisul of their State and the same gazetted by notice. The ease was adjourned till to-morrow. It is stated that accused absolutely refused to work, and complained of ill-treatment by the ship's officers.
