TEMUKA AND ASHBURTON SEATS'. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Last Night. Messrs. J. T. M. Hayhurst and R. Outline are not standing for Temuka. Mr. W. S. Maslin, a former member, stands for Ashburton, and Mr. G. W. Armitage for Temuka. Mr. W. Jeffries is also busy. "The Government," .states the Hon. R. McKenzie, "is always ready to assist local bodies in giving every facility to consider the question of electrical or any other method of traction. The question of subsidising the construction of tramlines to be electrically operated is worthy of consideration, but until the Government develops some large force of hydro-electrical power for transmission to suitable localities it is doubtful whether it would be profitable, for local bodies to undertake the construction of small schemes with ft view to electric traction on light tram-Ways. The matter is, however, receiving the careful consideration of the Public Works Department.
