CANADA'S POPULATION.

OVER SEVEN MILLIONS. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Ottawa, October IS. The census of Canada shows the population to be 7.100,000. There has been remarkable growth in Ottawa, where \ population of 125,000 has increased by 27,000; Toronto has now 376,000 inhabitants, being an increase of 176,000; and Montreal -160,000, an increase of nearly 200,000. Alberta and Saskatchewan provinces have grown enormously, the population being now 750,000, as apainst 160,000 at last census.

The general result is, however, disappointing, the statistical offiees having led the public to think, previous to the census enumeration, that the population would ho eight millions.
