STARVING CHILDREN.
CHARGE AGAINST THE FATHER. By Telegraph—Press Association. Whangarei, Yesterday. George Smith, of Puhipiihi, was charged in Court with so starving his two children as to endanger their lives. Medical evidence showed that the children were terribly emaciated. The elder boy, aged eight, weighed only SStii. and tin? younger hoy. aged six, only 341b. They have since improved a little by a few days' care at Whangarei Hospital. Accused, who is a widower witli a housekeeper, was committed for trial, bail in ,C'2o;> being allowed. According to the tables a boy of eight vears should weigh oolb, and one of six years -Id'/.lb.
