The mob, believing the officials' action to combat cholera was the outcome of a design to slaughter innocent people, besieged the town hall, overcame a small force of carbineers, and sacked the building, then invaded the ho>pilal and carried away the patients. some of whom were at the point of death, to their homes. A military reinforcement quelled the riot.
