WAITARA NEWS
(From Our Own Correspondent) On Monday evening a number of Mr. W. R. Wilson's friends met him at the Masonic Hotel, where he was entertained prior to his departure. His Worship the Mayor, Mr. W. F. .Tonkins, occupied the chair, and, utter the health of the King had been honored, Ln a felicitous speech, said he regretted the departure of the guest, and referred to his many good qualities both as a private and public citizen. The speaker referred. to the voluntary work done by the guest in hie positions on the Borough Council and Harbor Board, 011 which bodies he had done good work. On behalf of his friends he asked Mr. Wilson to accept a purse of sovereigns as a token of the goodwill they held him in and trusted that the recipient would live long and prosper. Messrs. Xewbery. Buchanan. Klenner, Nosworthy and Luxton also made very favorable reference to the public spiritedness of the guest, and wished him success. Other toats honored were: "Local Bodies," by Mr. W. F. Xewbery, and responded to by Cr. Klenner; "The Farming Community," by Mr. W. TI. Xosworthy, responded to by Mr. Luxton; and "The Ladies." Songs were rendered by Messrs. George, Farmer, Beekbessi'nger and Bird, and a recitation by Mr. Jas\ Mitchell. After toasting "The Chairman," and the singing of Auld Lang Syne, a most enjoyable evening was completed by 10 o'clock. li Mine hostess" laid out a very tempting table, to which justice was done. Mr. Wilson left for I Levin on Tuesday morning.
