THE PEACE COUNCIL.
WILL OPPOSE MILITARY TRAIN-
By Telegraph—Press Association. Christchurch, Last Night. A deputation from the National Peace Council waited upon Mr. L. M. l.sitt, M.P., to-day and discussed his position with reference to the compulsorv clauses of the Defence Act. After hearing Mr. Isitt's views, the council realised that there had been a misapprehension as to liis position in reference to the Defence Act, and, they have now decided to abandon their intentions of opposing him in the forthcoming election. A meeting of the National Peace ana Anti-Militarists' Council was held this evening. .Mr. Walter Scott Bedford, piesident of the W ellingW.n League, was present by invitation. It w-s arranged that the anti-militarist con!'; rence "be held in Wellington 011 November 9 and 10. The secretary reported th,. intention of the various leagues to semi delegates and generally spoke of the interest "that had been aroused throughout the Dominion regarding this gathering. Op. portunity will be taken while the delegates are present to hold a big anti-mili-tary demonstration in the capital city.
