THE EIGHT HOURS QUESTION. London, October 15. Mr. Fenwick, M.P., speaking at Hirst, said the trouble arising from the Eight Hours Act in Northumberland had cost the Miners' Association over £IOO,OOO. RAILWAYMEN THREATEN TO STRIKE. Received 16, f1.45 p.m. London, October 10. A mass meeting of Sheffield railwaymen resolved to strike unless the Midland Company fulfils the whole terms of settlement instead of, as alleged, penalising prominent strikers. TELEGRAPHISTS' STRIKE. Received 10, 8.5 p.m. Sydney, October 16. The enforcement of the broken shift, which led to the threatened strike of telegraphists, has been postponed to allow the new Postmaster-General to become seized of the situation. He has arranged an interview with the officials of the Telegraphists' Association. TELEGRAPHISTS' TROUBLES. Received 17, 1.10 a.m. Sydney, October 10. The Postmaster-General received a deputation from the. Telegraphists' A'ssocia- .... i discussed the trouble. He promised operators a fair deal, but would not be bluffed to give an answer to the demands until after fuller consideration.
