A NEW CONVENT SCHOOL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Westport, Last Night. Archbishop Redwood to-day performed the ceremony of dedicating and opening a now convent high school, which has bonrding-honse accommodation for IS pupils. HOSPITAL SATURDAY. Wellington. Last Night. The annual Hospital Saturday collections were nu'.de in (he streets yesterday, and the bands i'iv playing this afternoon at Newtown Park, where there is a very large crowd of ineople. notwithstanding that the weather is rather unfavorable. Yestordnv's collections amounted to £:S:00 tis'tod. ESCAPED CONVICT RECAPTURED. Dunedin, Last Night. Alexander Walguist, who escaped from custody on January 24, while being brought to Dunedin from Oamaru to be tried on a charge of robbery, was recaptured near Middlemarch yesterday. In the interval Walguist made fleeting appearances in various districts in Central Otago. but the police had been unable to catch him. J. J. BOY'DtTzOIOS. Wellington, Last Night. Mr. J. J. Boyd, who has established zoos at Auckland and Aramoho. is establishing another at Waiuoni Park. Christchurch, which will be opened on Labor Day. The nucleus of the collection was I shipped to the south on Saturday night, and comprises two lions, two tigers, two bears, two leopards, two eagles, one I puma, besides parrots and monkeys.
