SPORTING

TURF TOriCS. (By "Motur'oa.") The Marlborough Racing Club's spring meeting will bo concluded to-day. iSandstream won the Xapier I'ark Stakes last year in 2min. 7 3-osec. Messrs. Stead Bros, bad bad luck in Australia with their horses, and did no better when Sunburnt was put up for sale. At 200 guineas the bay son of Multiform went very cheaply, and such a well-bred horse would be worth more at the stud even if he never won another race.

One of tl/o strongest favorites to go down at Hastings was Mrs. Wiggs, who was credited with running four furlongs in 4!)seo. prior to the Stakes. That time was no good on the day. however, and for a change one of Ormohd's horses returned a respectable dividend.

Mr. E. J. Watt's filly, Ventura, was followed home in the Breeders' Plate by Rathkeale. a son of Multiform. Lady Lucy was one of the last to finish in the Metropolitan Handicap, and seems to have lost all her dash.

Lord Derby experienced a turn of bad hick the other day, when Swynford broke a fetlock whilst taking exercise. Swynford won £l€.(>!)4 last season, and his four victories this year brought his total winnings up to C 25,408. With Sun Star out of the way, and Lembqrg going off. Lord Derby would have won a lot more money with his champion but for this accident.

Soultline is showing good form in India. The New Zealand bred horse won the .SmniW'r Plate with !).12 up recently, and later dead-heated for first money in the Poona Plate. Aborigine and Apologue have gone oil', but will probably show to better advantage in the longdistance races later on.

In consequence of Gray's illness. Soultiform was not started at the Melbourne Hunt Club meeting.
