AXX'UAL COXFEREXTE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Xapier, Last Xight. The Baptist Conference was continued to-day. The thief business was the election of officers and standing committees. The Rev. H. Knowles. Kempton (Auckland) was- elected president; Mr. J. G. Fraser (Christehurch), vice-president; Rev. R. S. Gray, secretary; Mr. A. F. Carey, treasurer; Rev. Alfred Xorth, financial secretary. The" Rev. Alfred Xorth (Ponsonby) was appointed home mission superintendent and travelling organiser at a salary of £250 and expenses.
A student!*" committee was elected, comprising the Rev. A. Williams (convener), J. .). Xorth, J. K. Archer, A. S. Wilson, and Mr. A. S. Adams.
M'r. 11. 11. Driver was re-elected editor of the Xew Zealand Baptist, and the Rev. E. H. Hobday sub-editor. A committee consisting of the following was set up to consider and formulate a scheme for the removal and settlement of ministers: Revs. K. Kempton Buckingham, J. J. Xorth, H. Elliott, R. S. Gray and F. A. Radford, and Messrs. 0. Carson and l 11. M. Sineeton.
The following were elected a Sunday School Committee: Messrs. W. G. Shearer (convener), W. Donovan, R. Edwards, T. F. Thompson, R. O'Connorand F. C. Gray. The Rev. K. Kempton was elected 1 convener of the Board of Introduction and Advice. The Rev. T. Kirk was elected Union preacher, and the Rev. Howard Elliott deputy preacher. A literature committee was appointed, consisting of the following: Revs. Howard Elliott (convener), A. Xorth, W. R. W-ooJley and Mr. R. S. Abel.
The Annuity Fund Committee was reappointed, with Mr. R. S. Abel as secretary and Mr. H. M. Smeeton as treasurer. The Manse Fund Committee was also re-elected, with the addition of Mr. T. E. ToneycliU'e (convener). The Rev. T. E. Whitton and Heaton Baker were appointed auditors. An executive committee was elected, consisting of Revs. Kempton Kirkwood, sen., J. J. Xorth, J. K. Archer, A. S. Wilson, R. S. Gray, T. A. Williams, C. D. Gardiner, C. Daliaston, W. Hay, E. H. Hobday and A. Xorth, and Messrs. Smeelou, Touoycliffe, Carson, Cathrie, Hobey, Mackie. Clicilgy, A. F. Carey, Fraser, MiHigan, Adams and Driver.
Tin; conference is appointed to sit next year in Ghristehurch.
In the evennig a Home Mission demonstration was held, the chair being taken by Mr. A. F. Carey, of Christihaiiili. Speeches were delivered by Rev. W. Evan-' (Whangarei) and lie v. A. S. Wilson. The story of work in the backblocks proved very interesting to the large congregation.
The annual meeting of the Baptist Young Women's Bible Olass Union was held in the afternoon. Mrs. Archer, vicepresident, presided. Reports were received from the various classes. Mrs. Hoby, Wellington, was elected president for the ensuing year. It was decided that the funds of the union be divided between the Home and Foreign missions.
