Mr. Martin Kennedy, who did so much to make the four of New Zealand by the Irish delegates so splendid a success", has just received an official receipt for the second instalment of the New Zealand contribution signed by Bishop' O'Donnell and Messrs. J. E. Redmond and John Fitzgibbon, trustees of the Home Rule fund. With it came the following letter from Mr. John Redmond himself: "Dear Mr. Kennedy, I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of 28th July enclosing a credit note for .£4500. This with £4OOO already received from you by the envoys makes a total of £BSOO received by us. So far as the result of the New Zealand mission is concerned, I need not say that we and the -whole of the Nationalist Party are deeply grateful for this most magnificent and generous support We are now entering on the last lap, and nothing short of some quit© unforseen political earthquake can prevent the early triumph of Home Rule, and when that date comes, we all will gladly and proudly acknowledge how much Ireland owes to the Irishmen of New Zealand and foremost among them to you. United by my colleagues in warmest thanks to you,—l remain, very truly yours—(signed) J. E. Redmond, 29th August, 1911."
The last instalment was cabled Home quite recently, making the sum total of the net contribution of the Dominion to the fund nearly £9BBO. The total amount collected in New Zealand was nearly £II,OOO.
