CRUMBLING OF ARBITRATION
MOTHER UXIOX PULLS OUT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Cliristchurcli, October 0 The members of the Lvttelton Waterside Workers' Union took « ballot on Saturday night on the question of cancelling their registration of the union under the Conciliation and Arbitration Act. The result of the ballot Kvas that seventy-five per cent, of the members voted in favor of cancelling the registration, and steps are now to be taken to give elleet to this decision. Speaking to a reporter. Mr, H. R. Voyce, secretary of the union, stated that he was not at all surprised at the result of the ballot. The workers are beginning to realise that the Arbitration Court, as at present constituted, had outlived its usefulness, and did not exist for the betterment of the conditions for the working man. He himself could see no advantage to the union by remaining under the provisions of the Act.
With regard to the proposal to join the Miners' Federation, Mr, Voyce said that at present he was not in a position to make any definite statement, as it would !be some weeks yet before definite steps as to the future would bo / decided upon.
