LAWN TENNIS.
NEW PLYMOUTH CLUB. The report to be presented at the annual meeting of the New Plymouth Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club nextf Saturday evening is as follows:—-The' club's overdraft and outstanding ac-' counts this year appear as £9l 0s 2d i and £-Hi 18s 9d—£lo2 18s lid; last 1 year £123 0s 2d, an improvement of £2O Is 3d. The balance-sheet shows a surplus of assets over liabilities of £339 18s 7d. The membership is now: Playing members 84 (ladies 44, men 40); croquet members 22; honorary members GO (ladies 52, men 8). Comparing with last year: Playing members, ladies decrease 1, men decrease % croquet members, decrease 7; honorary members, ladies decrease 5, men decrease 5. Members are reminded of the allowance made in suJ»criptions paid before De-ce-mlbcr I'. Members wishing to resign must give notice in writing. The annual Taranaki championship meeting was held on the courts, the profit resulting, £3 14s 2d, going to the club funds. The following club matches were played during the season: Ladies' championship singles, winner Miss Brewster; men's chamipionship singles, Mr. J. C. Nicholson; ladies' handicap singles, Miss 30. Bundle; men's handicap singles, Mr. .T. Morton. The club is indebted to Mr. C. W, Govett for donation to club funds, to Messrs. J. Paton, N. Balharry, and A. 9. Hasell for donations towards trophies, and to Drs. Leatham, Home and Pookes for donations to tournament. The following inter-club matches were played'; Stratford (a win), Waitara (a win), Inglewood (a win), Waverley (a loss). Croquet club matches: Championship and handicap singles, Mrs. Fitzherbert; handicap doulbles, Mrs C. T. Mills and Mrs. Gtrant. The committee wish to thank the ladies who so kindly provided afternoon tea during the season; also the ladies' c&nnndtee for their assistance. Mrs. Perm acted as hon. secretary of the ladies' tennis committee, and Mrs. C. T. Mills as hon. secretary to the croquet committee during the past season; on behalf of the club the committee have much pleasure in thanking those ladies. The club's annual dance was held on Thursday, May 25, and was again most successful. Mr. J. Morton acted as hon. secretary. A water roller was purchased during the season, which will be of great benefit to the courts. The retiring members of the committee are Messrs. J. Morton, J. C. Nicholson, H. Stow, J. Paton and C. H. Weston.
