AUCKLAND DISPUTE ENDED. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Saturday. The Auckland branch of the Mercantile Service Guild has notified the registrar of the withdrawal of its application for a new reward recently filed, asking for increased wages, extra holidays, and time off in the home port. Simultaneously the shipping companies have entered an application for renewal of the agreement under which they are now working, which expires on March 31. The shipping companies anticipate an amicable settlement without arbitration. They state that as far as they, are aware there is no local dissatisfaction with the conditions.

CONFERENCE IN WELLINGTON, j Wellington, Saturday. The conference of the representatives of the Shipowners' Federation and officers affected in the merchant service, dispute was held to-day, Mr. Halley presiding. After a Jong discussion committees were appointed representing Ibotth parties to consider the question of hours. In the event of a settlement the feder*> tion guarantees to meet the masters of vessels concerned within a week re wages.

OFFICERS' WAGES. Wellington, Last Night. After a lengthy discussion yesterday between parties representing the Shipowners' Federation and officers of coastal vessels concerned in the Merchant Service Guild dispute, a committee was set up, with Mr. P. Halley as president, to consider the question of hours of work as regairds officers. The Guild fought strenuously to have masters and officerstaken together, but on the Federation guaranteeing, in the event of a settlement being made in the officers' pute, it would undertake to meet the masters within a week, to discuss the increase of wages, the Guild's representatives gave way. The committee met last evening, and Mr. Hally submited certain proposals to the committee on the question ot overtime, which is the main point of dispute. These proposals wll be kid 'before the Merchant Service Guild and the Shipowners' Federation to-morrow morning.
