TIMBER STRIKE SETTLED. By Cable —Press Association—Copyright. London, Ocstober 0. The Dublin timber trade strike has been settled, and all men have been reinstated, except those who misconducted themselves during the strike. The Miners' Federation resolved to secure a minimum wage in all districts irrespective of abnormal places, and has instructed the district unions to interview the masters and report to a conference on November 14. The Deptford dockers have resumed work on a mutual agreement.

SPINNERS' STRIKE THREATENED. Received 8, 5.5 p.m. London, October 8. Owing to .the refusal of two non-union-ists to join the union, all operatives at fiatefield mill, Burnley, have given notice to strike on Wednesday.

The Spinners' Association of NorthEast Lancashire replied threatening a lock-out involving 145,000. " CAPITALISTIC TENDENCY." A LABOR CIRCULAR. Received 0, 1.5 a.m. October 8. The General Federation of Trade Unions, in a circular, declares that hostility to trade unions has been manufactured by interested parties, successfully invoking Government aid to defeat the workers. It ridicules conciliation boards, and says that if State interference is permitted it will be difficult to stem the capitalistic tendency. Much of the recent disorder was the outcome of the inconsiderate action of the Governmen, who were flnrried by unscrupulous politicians. The Government contemplates a dangerous enlargement of its functions.

Even 1 union is urged to send a protest to Cabinet.

THE MT. LYELL DISPUTE. Melbourne, October 7. The Mount Lycll miners had another conference with the directors. Definite, proposals for a settlement will bo. submitted to the men. The terms have not been disclosed, but it is known that the manager gave an assurance that he was unaware that White was an official of the union when he "sacked" him. He took action solely because of the breach of discipline. The prospects of settlement are bright.
