WAITARA NEWS.
BOROUGH COUNCIL. (From Our Own Correspondent.) The usual monthly meeting was held on Wednesday evening, all members being present. His Worship the Mayor reported that the deputation's vi-it to Wellington in reference to the bridge had been highly successful, and had achieved the objects aimed at. He felt sure that the Council could have corresponded for the next twelve months and would then have been no further ahead.
iCr. Brabant supported the Mayor's views, and said they had much to be thankful for to Mr. Jennings, M.P., who waa most untiring in his efforts and deserved the thanks of the district. Cr. ftattenbury concurred.
On the motion of Cr. Brabant, seconded \yy the Mayor, a very hearty vote of thanks was passed to Mr. Jennings. The Waterworks Committee .reported having waited on Messrs, Thos, Borthwick and Sons, and after conference rccom.mend.etf the Council to reduce the charge for wafer* to them to sixpence per thousand gallons conditionally on the revenue received being not le>s than £SO per annum.
Tenders for the supply of metal for High and Raleigh streets were received from Tarry and Cartwr.ight, Tate and Paul, and J. Coleman. The latter's tender was Accepted l . Mr. U. Trim applied for and was granted l permission to cut down trees on the old institute site.
Mrs. E. Turner asked that J. Colcsby's fenioe be removed off the road.—lt was resolved to give Mr. Colesby notice to remove the fence.

The State Firo Insurance Department asked tor the insurance business.—Tlie request will be favorably considered when the time arrives.
The foreman's and overseer's reports were read -and adopted. The Fire Brigade asked for an endorsement of promissory note for building.— The Council was unable to accede to the request.
.Resident* of Orey street applied for a light.—Referred to the Lighting Committee.
The town clerk of Raiigiora circularised- the Council re censorship of picture shows.—Councillors were of the opinion that nothing objectionable had been seen at amy shown in Waitara, and the letter is to lie on -the table.
It was resolved to make application' for provisional approval of a loan of £7OOO for the erection of the new bridge. rt was decided to apply for £oo from the soldiers' cemetery grant for the purpose of erecting a suitable memorial in the -soldiers' cemetery.
