NORWICH STRIKE ENDED. By Cable—Press Association —Copyright London, October .'). , After lasting eight weeks, the strike of five thousand railwaymen at Norwich works has been settled, largely in favor of the men. The loss of wages amounted to £30,000, and strike pay to £IO,OOO. RAILWAY COMMTSSIOX. London, October 3. The Railway Strike Commission has terminated after hearing a Board of Trade witness in favor of the continuance of the expiring agreements and awards until fresh settlements arc reached, and also suggesting amendments to expedite procedure. RAILWAYMEN DISCHARGED. CONSTERNATION CAUSED. Received 4, 12.10 a.m. London, October 4. Consternation has been created by the London and North-Western Railway discharging seven hundred hands, being 10 per cent, of the staff. Working of short time had been in operation for thirty-three months. One of the objects of the strike was to secure full time. The company explained that the staff was too large. i The executive of the Amalgamated Railway of Dublin has reopened negotiations with the companies. ]
MT. LYELL DISPUTE. Melbourne, October 4. Mr. Justice Higgins has ordered a compulsory conference in the Lyell dispute to-day.
