FLYING FOR EVERYONE

I POPULAR ."iJQXfrDISTANCE PASSENGER TRIPS. London, August 10. Passenger flights in aeroplanes are rapidly increasing in popularity, and within the past few weeks the number of aerial journeys booked at Brooklands, Hendon, and other aerodromes has increased to Hie extent of 100 per cent. The growing rt'lrability of machines and the increasing skill of airmen have mainly led to the popularity of flying. Mr. 11. Barber, the inventor anil pilot of the Valkyrie monoplane, whose headquarters are ait Hendon. has booked £BOO worth of passenger (lights, and his "fares" require to be taken to all parts •f the country. !

"The aeroplane flight* booked through our instrumentality are now increasing to an altogether remarkable extent," observed Mr. Phillips, the manager of the aviation department of Messrs. Keith, Prowse and Co. yesterday. "At first eur charges for cross-country aerial journeys were at the rate of a guinea. a mile. Long-distance trips iby aeroplane are mainly in demand, and we had a 'fare' the other day, for instance, from Brooklands to the Isle of Wight.

"It is becoming quite a fashionable thing, particularly in this hot weather, to motor to Brooklands and Hendon, and then enjoy a delightfully cooling cross-country ilight. The evening is Kcner.illy the favorite time for such trips. It is curious how fascinated most people become with flying, for we find Hie same |>eople coming back time after time to book llights."
