FIRE ON A STEAMER
BRIGADE CALLED OUT. By Telegraph —Press Association. Auckland, Last Night. A fire broke out on the steamer Kent, now discharging cargo from Liverpool at Queen street wharf, early this morning. She was working, cargo up till ten o'clock last night and everything was then apparently safe, and the outbreak, for which no cause is assigned, was discovered albout 1.30 a.m. The City Fire, Brigade got tin; flames under control after an hour's strenuous work. The fire is believed to luvve .started in a orate of straw. The vessel has apparent!* sustained no injury, and the damage, to tho cargo will not be known until a survey is made to-morrow.
