PISCATORIAL

The Taranaki Acclimatisation Society has been particularly successful with their fish ponds during the past few months, and large numbers of liiu healthy young brown and rainbow trout have been reared. During the past few weeks many thousands of young fry have been liberated in various parts of the district. The Warea and Inglewood districts have each been supplied with 10,000 fry, Tariki rivers 15,000. On Saturday last 500(1 young rainbow trout were' liberated in the Waiwakaiho near Egmont Village. The society still have in their ponds -200,000 young lish. half of which are rainbow and the remainder brown trout. It has been found that the most successful rivers for the rainbow trout are the Waiwakaiho and Stony, and the remainder of the fry of the rainbow kind will go to these streams.

It is possible that the society will endeavor to secure for the ponds next year some spawn of the Fontevalis species of trout. This is a smaller trout than either the rainbow or bronvn, and it is thought will acclimatise well ia Taranaki streams. The Fontevalis is a '-very free feeder, and provides good sport. On October -1 the fishing season opens, and there is promise of excellent sport in many of the streams. Anglers are very busy just now fitting up gear. Keen interest is being evinced by anglers, and with the excellent work of'the Acclimatisation Society during the past year, it is hoped that their ranks will he considerably augmented this season.
