London, September 22.
The locomotive, meai on the Midland Railway, Ireland, refused to obey the amalgamated executive, and will only strike if their own union gives the orders to do so.
There is much dissatisfaction because the Amalgamated Society's general strike docs not apply to the United Kingdom. On hundred police pensioners have been sworn in as special constables at Dublin.
One hundred goods men on the Great Northern at Belfast struck, also thirty of the same company's staff at Dublin. Mr. Williams, secretary of the Amalgamated Society, states that the general strike applies only to Ireland. At present the executive exempted the Dublin-South Eastern Railway from the general strike.
Queenstown is completely cut off from London and Dublin. Two hundred overseas passengers are unable to proceed on their journey. Traders and merchants in Dublin bitterly complain of the Dublin Castle authorities' indifference.
The dispute at Dowlais has been settled on a basis of recognition of the union and increased wages.
WHAT THE EXECUTIVE IS PREPARED TO IX). CALL OUT THE MEN OF BRITAIN. Received 25, 1 a.m. London, September 24. Law, a member of the Amalgamated executive, in a speech at Dundalk, said they were prepared to call out the rail-way-men of Britain unless the companies yielded, even at the risk of running Britain and Ireland into civil war. The men at Dundalk are still working. There is some improvement in the conditions as regards the southern lines of Ireland. Tlie strikers at Wexford South Station have resumed.
