THE NORTHERN TERRITORY.
THE SCIENTIFIC EXPEDITION. INTERESTING REPORT. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright, deceived 21, 5.30 p.m. Melbourne, September 21. The report of the scientific expedition to the Northern Territory states that the health of the European population is remarkably good. Families of the second generation show no signs of physical deterioration. The residents of four decades compared favorably with people elsewhere. Malaria was endemic in the mining centres, but was due to the. insanitary conditions, and can be. remedied. No part of the country is carrying its full capacity of stock. Tick infection is general, but the cattle seemed to possess sufficient immunity from it. The report says that natives in the vicinity of the settlements are mostly demoralised, and adds that it is essential that their contact with Chinese, whose influence is wholly for evil, should be prevented.
