HOCKEY.
TARAXAKI v. AUCKLAND. The public of Xew Plymouth will have the opportunity this afternoon of witnessing a very good .exhibition of the game, which is getting n big liojd ill the bigger centres of the Dominion. The Auckland team is nearly as good as the team that put up such a good fight against Wellington for the Hockey Shield about six weeks ago, and as the local team is fairly strong a fast and interesting match should result. The match will be played 011 the Sports Ground, which is being specially cut and rolled for the occasion. The teams are as follow:
AUCKLAND (P.lue and White). fionl: W. Allen. Full-backs: L. IT. Norton and T. CI. Jackson. Half-backs: A. M. Howe, D. K. Porter and V. C. Kavanagh. Forwards: C. Burton, 13. A. Whitaker, F. R. IMason, R. H. Parton and 11. Burton. TARAXAKI (Amber and Black). ' Forwards: (Irifl'en, Sage, Priest, Button and ,1. Harris. Half-hacks: Thofhson, M. Harris and Avery. Full-ba<-ks: -Curtis and Anderson. < !oal: Stephens. Messrs. F. Robertson and V. 11. Beal will control the game. The referees will each take charge of his own half of the ground. The game will start at 3 o'clock. The team will be the guests of the Taranaki Hockey Association at dinner at the Criterion Hotel in the evening, the Rarawa being delayed till 0.30 p.m. Children will be admitted to the match alt a charge of sixpence.
