It 19 understood that the appointment of Major Knox, Director of Supplies and Transport at General Headquarters, Wellington, to tho position of Quartermas-ter-General of the New Zealand Forces, will be gazetted this week. Hitherto this appointment has been bracketed with that of the adjutant-generalship, and since .the arrival in the Dominion of MajorGeneral A. J. Godley, C.B. General Officer commanding the Forces, the combined departments have been under the administration of Colonel A. W. Robin, C.8., officially designated the Adjutant and Quartermaster-General. A3 the new defence system has developed, the increasing demands upon the Quarter-master-General have rather overburdened the adjutant-general's side of Colonel Robin's responsibilities, and created the necessity for a rearrangement of the duties, thus bringing the New Zealand General Staff organisation into line with the Imperial system. Major Knox's appointment will, it Is further understood, carry with it the local rank of lieuten-ant-colonel.
