THE LITHGOW STRIKE. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. Sydney, September 10. An engine and truck were derailed at Lithgow ironworks on a siding. It is stated that the fish plates were removejl and a bolt placed between the points. Thirty cadets at Lithgow refused to drill, on the ground that some of the other cadets were working with nonunionists.
THE WHEELERS' STRIKE. Sydney, September 10. The position at Newcastle is unchanged. The wheelers show no inclination to resume work. The New Lambton and Seapit miners are idle. The wheelers' notices expire to-day. STRIKES IN SPAIN. Madrid, September 15. Tt is reported that severe street fighting has taken place at Bilbao, but no details are available. The trouble is spreading to Malaga, on the Mediterranean coast. "Miners at Oviedo dynamited a railway bridge. WHEAT HANDLERS RESUME. COAL LUMPERS SATISFIED. Received 18, 1 a.m. Sydney, September 17. The wheat handlers' strike is settled. The threatened strike of coal lumpers is averted. The men demanded an increase of payment for night work. As the result of lengthy negotiations the shipping companies conceded an increase of from Is 9d to 2s 3d an hour. COST OF THE AUGUST STRIKES. Received 1!7, 5.5 p.m. Lendon, September 16. Two million, three hundred and twenty-three thousand working days were lost in Britain during August owing to the strikes. Three hundred and seventy three thousand, six hundred and fifteen workers were involved.
