Morey. in referring to the resignation of tin: borough inspector which was before (lie Council, said he had been absent from the Council Chamber when (bo resolution was passed to grant tin' inspector a bicycle allowance so small that it did not bring his remuneration ii]i to C.'i a week as asked. He moved to rescind that resolution.

Cr. Hartuell, though one who had voted at the last meeting for an increased remuneration for Mr. Tippins, and one who believed the inspector was the very man for the job, said he didn't like the procedure which Cr. Morey proposed, and would rather see the resignation accepted. Cr. Mannix moved that the resignation be accepted. Cr. Clarke seconded. He did not believe in the Council submitting to such treatment. Cr. Mannix: Too much like the tail wagging the dog. Cr. Clarke, continuing, said that if Inspector Tippins bad not been quite so impatient, but had waited till March next, lie would gladly have suported the increase v< his salary (o ,Clsli a year. liul the Council should stand on its dignity and let the inspector go. Cr. Ainbury supported. It was pointed out that the inspector was only currying out the terms of his letter to the Council, in which he had oll'ered to withdraw his resignation provided his remuneration was increased to £.') a week. Cr. C.ilbert considered that the Council had passed its most foolish resolution when it declared that the members of the permanent stall' should not apply for increase of salary except in February of each year. Or. Morey then moved, and Cr. (lilberf seconded, an amendment that Inspector Tippins' salary be increased by .CIO a year. This was lost. The motion to accept the resignation was carried. The division, which Cr. (lilbert requested should be published, was: Ayes: Crs. llartncH, liuttimore, Buxton, Ambury, Clarke. Mannix; Noes: The Mayor and Crs. Morey, (iilbert and Stocker.
