A RICH INHERITANCE. By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, Thursday. Mrs. W. Clay, daughter of Sergt.Major Smith, who, according to a London cable, with his sister, inherits two millions from a brother who struck out in Canada, is the wife of an electrical engineer residing at Birkenhead, Auckland. The fortune is to be divided between Mrs. Clay's father and two sisters, one of whom resides in Australia and the other in Plymouth, England. Sergt.Major Smith has a family of five children, Mrs. Clay having two brothers and two sisters.
REPRESENTATION COMMISSION'S WORK. Christt'hurch, Thursday. The South Island' Representation Commissioners are sitting here to-day. The proceedings are not open to the press, and the Commission declines to give information concerning the nature of the objections lodged against the proposed boundaries. They will probably finish their work to-morrow. THE AORANGI Wellington, Thursday. The Aorangi, which left San Francisco on August 23, arrived here early to-day, after a fine weather passage. She brought OG passengers, the bulk of those in the steerage being for Sydney. Included in the cargo are 3720 cases tinned fruit, 3507 cases bananas and cocoamus, 1200 cases Californian apples, and 2175 sacks copra. The vessel also brought 17 head of stud cattle for various parts of New Zealand. BUTTER FOR CANADA. Eltham, Thursday. Arrangements have been made by Mr. G. W. Buckeridge, representative of Lane and Co., London, for the export of 15 tons of butter per month, also trial shipments of frozen meat to NorthWest Coast Canada.' It is believed that a profitable market for Npw Zealand produce can be opened up there. The supplies are to be drawn principally from the North Island.
