An aviator named .las. Ward has started on a llight to San Francisco for a prize of £10,(100. He is following the line of the Erie railroad. ACCIDENTS IX FRAXCE. Paris, September 13. Lieutenant Chantard fell while aeroplaning at Versailles and was killed. Vedrines, the well-known aviator, who was second in the Daily Mail race, fell at Hericourt and was seriously injured. HEAVY DEATH ROLL. Received 14, 11 p.m. Paris, September 14. Chantard was the eighty-fourth aviator and the twelfth French officer killed during aerial flights. He had had only eight days' experience, and met with a treacherous aerial current. He lost control of the. machine, and was pinned beneath the wreckage.
