The enquiry into the collapse of the j Eldorado Theatre at Nice, by which a number of workmen were killed, resulted in the contractor, architect and superintendent of works being charged with homicide due to neglect. PROHIBITION IN MAINE. New York, September 13. The State of Maine, in which the prohibition of the manufacture, sale and use of intoxicating drinks, with cer- • tain exceptions, has been in force for 60 years, refused, by a narrow majority, to repeal prohibition. THE PAPANUI ABANDONED. St. Helena, September 13. The steamer Papanui, bound from Glasgow for Westralian ports, was on fire from stem to stern, and was gutted. She was beached and abandoned. The whole of the cargo has not been landed. FIRE AT ANTWERP. Brussels, September 13. A timber warehouse and nine dwellings at the Campine Dock, Antwerp, have been burnt. The damage is estimated at seven million francs.
