THE DROUGHT
BROKEX IX THE SOUTH. By Telegraph—Press Association. Timaru, Wednesday. Splendid rain has been falling since the early hours. It is very cold weather, which may have a bad effect on lambs, but the rain will do vast good in the country. Christchiireh, Wednesday. Xorth Canterbury has experienced a long spell of dry weather. There has been no rain of consequence since July. Frosts in August checked spring growth, and 1 the position was becoming serious from the point of view both of farmers and graziers. Rain commenced to fall shortly before mid-day, and a steady downpour developed, with every prospect of continuing through the afternoon. Many farmers are in town for the market and are unanimous in saying the rain has saved the situation fre::i their point of view.
