FIRES.
GRASS AND FLAX BURNED. By Telegraph—rresa Association. Wellington, Tuesday. There was a fierce tire at Waikanae on Sunday. Two, thousand acres belonging to Mossts Brown, Field, Campion and Hadfield were swept by the flames, the grass and flax lands in places being left bare* Great damage was dpne. Mr. Brown was the heaviest sufferer. ' A DWELLING DESTROYED. Wellington, Tuesday. A house in Khanilaliah, owned and occupied by Robt. Jefferson, was destroyed by fire early this morning. The building was insured for £SOO in the New Zealand ofljee. There was no insurance on the contents, none of which was saved.
