WAITARA WEST ROAD BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING. (From Our Own Correspondent.) At the monthly meeting of the above Board there were present: Messrs J. Oonnett (chairman), Messrs French, Hall TurnliuJl and Surrey. Correspondence was read from Mr. 0. ■I- H'lrn-K-- objecting to surface water from the Te Arai road being turned on to Ins property; from Waitara Harbor Board, re alteration of constitution of Board in election of members; from Mr. C. lloskin, requesting that lower end" of Brown road be graded; from Messrs Tate and Paul, stating that thev had complied with conditions laid down by the Board in their carting boulders contract over the Karaka road: from Mr C Leech, requesting that the side of Kaii-au road be ploughed instead of u s in» the road-grader; from Mr. F. Roskin, re fsaine; Messrs W. Uonnor and S. .Sarteii, stating that they were agreeable to be rated for a loan "to metal hill on Karaka road; from Mr. W. T. Jennings, M.F., notifying that he had applied fiir a subsidy for same; from Moa Road Board, giving expenditure on Davis roadfrom Mr. G. T. Murray, requesting that a list of quarries in the district be supplied; from the Treasury, stating that MibMily on rates had been paid in to Boards account.

Resolved, that the Board support the \\aitara Harbor Board's proposal to change the method of electing members. Messrs Leech and Hoskin arc to be informed that the Board consider in ndvisabli; to grade the Kairau road in the centre but that there is no objection to tlie sides being ploughed, provided traffic is not interrercd with.

Mr. Turnbul! reported thai Mr. Sarten required a pipe culvert put in on tho Karaka road, as the present wooden culvert had collapsed. Mr. French will inspect and report at next meetins. Mr. Merrick is to be informed that the Board are unable to comply with his request to stop surface water from Te Arei road from running over his property. 1

.Mi. Dowsett is to lie req;i»sted to report on erection of a. bridge over the Mangawera stream on the Mauutahi East road.

A list of quarries is to be supplied to Mr. Murray.

The cicrk was directed to cnouire re administration charges of the M.'.a Road board on the Davis road

Complaint having been made of trees injuring the Richmond road, it was decided to request Miss Crowe to hare them cut back.

Mr IloKkm is to lie informed that, he l.r„wn road will be wh , M the road-grader is next in tiio district. .Surfaceman Palmer reported that the dumped metal had been put on Kellv road and that the bridge on York road had boon repaired. The filli„ 2 on Cross road bad been widened. A culvert on Pennington road, which was clinked, had been raised about two feet. A filling on the upper end of Te Arei road barf been fenced, the old posts bavins; fallen down B'lie metal on Kelly road had been tested, and was thin in the centre, but there was from sin to 7in in the wheel (racks, the Ik Arei n>a<f metal was in much the same condition.

.Surfaceman Oiddv reported that he had carted planks for'repairing York road bridge. Ihe lull on Elsham road had been formed, taking two rfavs. The metal on Miinutahi West and Corbett roads was very thin; also on Richmond road, beyond the .Uangsuvriero bridge. The metal on Wortley road was from . r )in (o Tin thick, excepting some places, to be re-coated this year.
