r—*. NEW ZEALAND TOURNAMENT. SPLENDID PLAY. DUNCAN AND CLEMENTS WIN. By Telegraph—Press Association. W.uiganui. Saturday Night. The New Zealand golf championship meeting concluded to-day, and, as has been the case since the commencement,' magnificent weather was experienced. A record crowd was present in the afternoon, when the amateur and professional champions-hip were decided. Arthur Duncan, as was expected, had a very easy win in the amateur event, though Dodgshun put up a gallant light. The man who would have beaten Duncan this morning would indeed have been a wonder, for he (inched nine up on bogey, and broke the links' record by four strokes, doing the round in 70. Clements proved superior to McEwan in the professional championship, though the play throughout was of ian even nature. _ Following are the results of the day's play:—

The first eighteen holes were played in" the morning. Playing for the lirst hole, both men got in good drives. With his second, a cleek shot, Duncan got well up on the green at the corner, but Dodgshun was short. Duncan then holed out in 4, and was one up. Playing to the Dress Circle, Duncan, with a fine drive, got over the ridge, as did Dodghun, but the "latter with his brassie got into the sand, whale Duncan found the green and j holed out in 5. Two up. Playing to | The Exodus both got in fine drives, but Dodgshun's second landed him in the rough, and then, with a great putt, in which he screwed cleverly, he holed out in 3. Three up. Playing for The Ridge, Dodgshun's drive was very weak, but his second was a good one. Duncan's drive was fine, and his second ran over the green. He holed out in 4. Four up. Playing to The Redan. Duncan got on to the green in good position, while Dodgshun ran over. Both missed their putts, and the hole was halved. Playing to Lilliput, Duncan landed just off the green with his mashie shot, whilii Dodgshun ran past. Duncan, with his run up, landed a. yard away, while Dodgshun failed to hole, but nearly stymied Duncan, who holed out in 3," and was five up. Good drives by both, and they got on to the green in two at The Quarry, the whole being halved. Both drove well to Lands End, but Duncan made the better approach with his midiron, Dodgshun running through on to the edge, but he mad« a splendid putt and halved in 4. At The Slope, Duncan landed on the green about 10ft away, while Dodgshun was short, but got in a good approach. He missed a Ift putt' by inches only, and the hole was halved in 3. Duncan had thus gone out in 33. Over the last three greens, Dodgshun was playing very correct golf, his scores being all bogey.-, and it was hard luck to be up against such a brilliant player as Duncan, with the latter on top form. Playing to Long Tom, Duncan's drive was a fine one, but he found a hanging lie. However, taking his cleek, he.got in a good shot, and with his third was just short of the green. His run up was splendid, but he failed with his putt by six inches. Dodgshun took four to reach the green, but halved it. At Terawhiti Duncan put in a perfect cleek shot, and got on the green within six feet of the pin. Dodgshun got to the left, and was short in his "approach. Duncan holed out in i and was six up. At the twelfth, Duncan holed out in 4. and was seven up. So far Duncan had not made the semblance of a mistake. The thirteenth was halved in 5. At the French Pass Duncan got on to the green with his drive, but Dodgshun lost the head of his brassie and was bunkered with a mashie shot. He cleared and found the green. Duncan just- missed holing out with his second, and then found it in 3, and was eight up at Bunker's Hill. Both made good drives and landed on the green with their second. Dodgshun miss a long putt, and Duncan holed out in 4. This made him nine up. At Cabbage Tree Duncan got to the right with his approach, while Dodgshun found the green, but missed his putt, and thus lost a chance of winning the hole. Duncan got in a good long putt, but missed a very easv chance, the hole being halved in 5. Plaving to Ba'lgownie, Duncan pulled to the left and was then short with his approach. His run-up was also short, and it took him 5 to hole out. but even then he won, and was ten up. Playing for Home, Duncan had to do it in three to make his score 70, but he proved equal to the occasion. He got in a splendid drive, his line being perfect, and then he landed about three yards from the pin. Great interest was taken in the putt, but with ■a fine effort he holed out in 3. and thus had done the links in 70—a great performance—and was ten up. "lli s van \ read:

Despite his big handicap, Dodgshun set out. in good heart, and played excellent golf. The first bole was halved in four, but the Dress Circle proved fatal to both players, Duncan taking (i and Dodgshun 7.' The Exodus was halved in +, and Dodgshun wou the ridge, >j—4. The Kedan fell to Duncan. 3—4; but Dodigshim won Lilliput. The Quarry was won in 4 by Duncan, and Land's End was halved, and the game ended, Duncan winning n „,, nU(I ]0 to play.
PROFESSIONAL; CHAMPIONSHIP. W. McEwen (Wanganui) v. ,1. Clements (Christchurch). The first round, which was played in the morning, was marked hy very consistent play rather than' great brilliance. At the next each made
two good drives, and the approach in each case left the ball close to the hole. Clements missed his putt, as did also McEwen, and they holed out in » r >, leaving Clements one up. Driving off again. McEwen did better, but Clements recovered weil with his second shot, which landed on the green. McEwen's second fell near the bunker, but he got out well. His putt went astray, and Clement* also missed his putt, but holed out in four, and was thus two up at the eighteenth. McKwen drove a long shot, but Clements made a good approach, and then putted within two feet of the hole, McEwen approached on to the green and then putted within a couple of feet of him. lie missed the opportunity of holing out and Clements holed out in 4, and thus the round ended with McEwen three down.
The second round was played in the afternoon. Both got away with good drives, but their second was short. They got on the green in three, missed their putts and halved in si. All square. At the Dress Circle, Clements pulled his drive, and McEwen got a straight ball. Clements was on the green with his third,, McEwen being short. Clements missed his putt and won in ">. McEwen taking 6. Clements was now one up. Clements started for The Exodus with a good straight drive, but McEwen went to the right. Clements pitched rather short, but McEwen was on, the hale being halved in 4. Clements 1 up. At Th« Hidgo Clements was a bit short. McEwen holed out with his putt, and won 3-4. All square. At The Redan McEwen was a little to the/ right, and Clements pulled his drive. Both were on in two, missed their third, and halved in 4. A'll square. Clements was short ut Lilliput, and McEwan was on with his first. He approached well, and holed out in 3, Clements taking 4. McEwen, 1 up.Both started with good drives for TTie Quarry, and were on with their second. They missed their third and halved in 4. McEwen, 1 up. Land's End was halved in 4. Clements was on the green in 2, but McEwen's approach was rather short. Clements missed his putt, and McEwen made a good putt. McEwen, 1 up. At The Slope, Clements repeated his morning shot, and narrowly missed a 2, the ball stopping a couple of inches off. McEwen's drive was a little short, but his approach was good, and he holed out in 3. McEwen, 1 up. Turning for Home. both men got in line drives. Both were on the green in 3, McEwen having a better position. He did not putt far enough, and Clements went too far. Clements missed another, and then holed in (i—7, McEwen winning in two puttsThe Terawhiti green was reached in one by Clements, who landed five feet from the hole. McEwen got in the rushes to the left, and his approach was short. He was on the green in 3, and, then missed his putt. Clements also missed, and won, 3 to 5. Clements, 2 up. Alma, was fought on equal terms, right to the final putt, the hole being halved in 5. Clements, 2 up. At The Encampment, McEwen unfortunately went out of bounds. His third brought him near the green, and Clements was nearly, bunkered with his second. A had approach and a missed putt made the scores ">—(}, Clements being now 3 up. The French Pass was done in si sensational manner. Both were on the green in one, Clements* near the edge, and McEwen alongside the pin. Clements sent down a beautiful long putt, and won, McEwen missing. Clements, 4 up. At Bunker's Hill, some good shots were put in, but the putting was erratic. McEwen holed in 5, andClements in (!, the*score standing, Clement* 3 up and 3 to play. There was great excitement lis the men started off for the Cabbage Tree. Both were on the green in two, and each missed a putt, the hole being halved in 4/and Clements was declared champion, with six up. The prizes were subsequently presented, and a successful meeting terminated.
XGAMOTU CLUB. At the Xgamotu Club a bogey match was played for a prize donated by Mr. W. Bewiey, and although the links were in first-class order, the results were not up to the usual standard. Following are the five best cards:—Johns, all square; W. S. (!. Pa ton, all square; Ward, one down; Haslain, two down; W. C. Weston, three down. Xext Saturday the first round of tho Xgamotu championship will be played, when some very keen games arc expected. Following is the draw:—W. C. Weston v. Johns; Ward v. A. Bowley; W. Bewiey v. ,1. Pa ton; Glasgow v. Medley. Other players are requested to give those engaged in the championship as clear a field as possible, and to note that on that date no three-ball or four-ball matches will be allowed. Xgamotu members are requested to see that all gates are closed on entering or leaving the grounds, as recently, through this having been overlooked. stock has wandered out. TAIUHUA CLUB. The mixed foursome match for Mr. 0. ("Jrey's trophy was advanced another stage.on Saturday, when Miss K. Putt and X«il bent Hiss V. Putt ami Goudie, mid Miss White and J. CI. List beat Miss Avery and Hempton. The finals will Like place on Saturday week. In the club championship Bayly beat Hill, and Douglns bent Law. The final is between Bayly and Douglas.
