TARANAIU AGAIN SUCCESSFUL. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Now Zealand ladies' hockey torn naim-nt was continued to-day in line weather. Koine of the games were very exciting. Lord and Lady Islington anil party motored to Days Bay during the afternoon, ami paid a visit to several ol the games. . The contest between Wellington A and Buller was an interesting exhibition of hockey, and showed great improvement. As a result of their win Wellington A are now qualified to compete in the semifinals, and this is the first year at any tournament in which a local team has appeared so high on the list. Wellington deserved to win on their play. It was a very hard-fought game from start to finish, each team rushing the hall into their opponents' territory in fine style. The hackt plaved well, and there was very little lmd .play on either side. Throughout the first spell the bail travelled from end to end, and at half-time neither side hud scored. Karlv in the second half Wellington got slightly the better of things. Their forwards took the ball from well within their own half of the field, passed across and out to Miss McDonnell, wh.o ran in and shot bard, managing to get the ball over the goal line. This was the only score of the game. It wis a very close call for Buller. Tin- goal-keeper stopped the shot, but her skirt got in the way, and the bal'l rolled a few inches over the line. Play hovered alternately in one another's circle until the call' of time, and the game stood: Wellington A 1, Buller nil.

Hawke's Bay defeated Marll>orough by 2 to ]. It was a very keen and exciting struggle. Both tennis, played fairly well fl om start, to finish, and play continually drifted from goal to goal, each side putting in good defensive work. Hawke's Bay attacked from the outset, and the pace wn.s fairly fast. Then Marlborough improved. On one occasion they rushed play into Hawke's Bay circle, but spoilt their change of scoring .by being too slow in the circle. Marlborough's defence was brilliant at times. They made two attempts to penetrato their opponents' defence, but -without avail. Prom an attack by Hawke's Biiv (Miss Pitt secured' the ball from the right wing, .ran into the circle, and sent a Lightning shot past the goalkeeper. After this reverse Marlborough livened up, and some excellent shots at goal went outside the posts. Fast play continued till half-time. Both teams displayed fine form. Tn the second spell Marlborough's forward carried the hall along, gained a footing in the circle, and, beating all the backs, scored from a scramble, Miss .Tonkins beiiig responsible. The play was now very exciting. After some strenuous work by Hawke's Bay forwards, they were oiiaWert to secure their winning goail from the corner, (live and take play followed; Then Miss Smith shot, in beautifully, and 1 registered Marlborough's goal', the backs making no attempt to save. Miss Harrison, Hawke's Bay's right winger, made a pretty individual effort, but her work \\as mulled through the goalkeeper coming out of goal.

Warirarapa 'bent West, Coast for 2 to nil. It was a very even but. monotonous game. Wairarapa had a slight advantage. Misses R. Xetlson and Orr scored. Mamwatu defeated Wellington B by R to nil. Tt was a wry one-sided game. Praise is due to the local goalkeeper for splendidly saving several shots, and she made creditable attempts at each of eight goals that went through Against her. Wanganui beat Southland by 2 to I From the initial bully the former team were the invaders, their forward play being good, while Southland's defence' was solnd.
