(From Our Own Correspondent.) The monthly meeting of the Sctiool Committee took place on .Monday evening, Mr. Wakely presiding. The Education Board replied to the several mat-, ters brought under their notice at the last meeting. The headmaster reported the attendance as being small"owing to the prevalence of measles, the average for the quarter being: Boys, 143.4; girls, 118.5; total, 281.9. < The chairman and Mr. Johnstone reported that, with Mr. llalcombe, they had inspected the fencing round the school, and pointed out that a new fence was badly required, but the committee's funds would not permit them to do the work. It was resolved to again approach the Board with a request that they do the whole thing, pointing out that the committee have received £4O from the public for the erection of shelter shed and some £5 for ordinary purposes by the recent concert. •
' V.otes of thanks were accorded to Mr. Saunders for providing the recent entertainment, and to Mr. G. 11. Stubbs for a donation of half-a-ton of coal, The result of the concert showed receipts to be £ll 3s 6d and expenses £3 ss, leaving the remainder to be divided between the committee and 'Mr. Saunders.
With the appearance of Sergeant Dart and Constables Lapouple and 'Fitzpatrdck trekking towards Urenui, visions of the capture of Powelka loomed up largely in the minds* of the people here. Possibly surmises as to the cause of the cavalcade may be right. Borough Council meeting to-night. The annual inspection at the school takes place on Thursday and Friday.
