IRISH CHAMPIONSHIP. By Cable—Press Association—Copyright. London, August 29. At the Irish amateur championship meeting the stroke competition was won by Munn, Irish champion, with 78. Clyde Pearce was second with 81. THE MANW.YATi: TOURNAMENT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston North, Last Night. The Manawatu golf tournament began yesterday, when C. Louiseon won the 36 holes stroke handicap, and Kapi Tarcha won the driving. To-day there was almost a gajc, and the pi -y was remarkable for Arthur Duncan's, fine score in the 18-hole stroke. He went out iu 36, and came in in 41, winning the competition from 4 behind scratch, R. Abbott, 91—10—81, being second. The first i two rounds of match play for the championship have left in Arthur Duncan, Kapi Tareha, J. C. Bidwell and Ken Duncan, who play in this order in the semi-final to-morrow. The bogey handicap to-day resulted in a tie between H. Butterworth (3), F. Seifert (6), and Dr. Cox (5), all at 2 down. They wild play off to-morrow. NGAMOTU OLUB. On Tuesday the Ngamotu ladies played oir for the Edmunds Medal. The following are the six best cards handed In.— Mrs. Hoslam, 110—40—76. Mrs. Gunson, 112—29—53. Miss Perev Smith, 113—27—36. Mrs. Johns, 109—22—87. Miss. Bewloy, 107—19—88. Miss Standisli and Miss E. Rundle are heading for the 'bachelors' prize. Next Tuesday on the limit will play foT Miss Deacon's prize.
