The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Stratford branch, report:— We opened our Te Wera saleyards m Friday, 25th inst., when there was a small yarding of 208 cattle, mostly grown, 66 sheep and 3 horses. Several lines of hoggets- advertised for this sale ware sold privately prior to Uie sale. There was a large attendance for the district, about seventy people being present. The building was dull, while vendors' reserves were somewhat high, which resulted in most of the stuff being passed in. Two and a, half to ithree-year-old steers -were passed in at 80s to 62s Cd; a nice line of emipty heifers, rising two yeare, realised 735; mixed weancrs passed in at 31s; dairy cows, not too forwaid, realised from 90s to 122s 6dj springing heifers, backward, Ills to 128s 6d for anything showing l condition and dose to profit. A horse was sold at £l7. Our next Te Wera sale will he held on September 22, and our nest Kohuratahi sale on September 8. In omr Stratford yards we held our Usual fortnightly sale on the 29th inst., when there ttos a fair yarding of 356 cattle, most of which were sold at the hammer and afterwards at full market values. Mr. George Hobbs kindly acted as auctioneer in the aibsence of our Mr. Budd. We had a heavy yarding of dairy stock, consisting of 76 heifers and 33 dairy cows. In accordance with the arrangement with our opposition friends we disposed of the dairy heifers, then the cows, and the store cattle afterwards, which appeared to work very well. A very nice line of heifers, a/c Messrs. Hann Bros., realised from 95» * to 170s; a/c. Mr. Henry Sanson, a nice line, slightly low. in condition but close to profit, realised 100s to 172s 6d; several other lines made from 65» to 85s for backward, and 95s to 170s for heifers close to profit. Dairy cows made from 85s to 140s and up to 2355; anything forward in the dairy line was all disposed of at the hammer. Yearling steers from fair to good quality made from 35s Od to 475; yearling heifers, 30s to 455; a nice line of yearling Jersey cross heifers, a/c. an Opunake road client, elicited keen competition, and realised fi:>«. Empty two-year heifers, low condition, 50s to 70s 6d; fat cows, 115s to 122s 6d; store cows, 40s to 70s; bulla showing size and condition were keenly sought after, and realised 98s to 105s. Our next Stratford sale will be held on September 12. During the past week our Wera a2;eiit, Mr. Robert McMullian, disposed of a good many hoggets at 9s. We also have to report having the output of a Bmall factory, butter at ll%d and cheese at Od per lb., also n line of 70 tons of old tram rails to an East Coast client at a satisfactory price.
