A GREENSTONE REEF.
MILLIONS OF TONS IN SIGHT. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. Private advices from the West Coast report and important discovery of what is believed to be the mother reef from which all the greenstone found there is derived. It is high up on a mountain in the Arahura district, and, whether it is actually the original reef or not, is a vast outcrop of greenstone, amounting to millions of tons. A syndicate has been formed to exploit it. With greenstone in such quantities its use will no longer be confined to jewellery, and the idea is to work it for commercial purposes, in the form of mantelpieces, table tops, monuments, etc. It is also understood there will be a large market in China, where greenstone in the form of jade is regarded with peculiar veneration.
