CONCILIATION COUNCIL.
I NEWSPAPER EMPLOYEES' WAGES. By Telegraph—Press Association. . Wellington, Last Night. This morning a conference between the representatives of the Master Printers and Newspaper Proprietors of the Dominion and the New Zealand Typographical Federation was commenced. Mr. P. Hally, Conciliation Commissioner, presided. The object of the conference is to arrange questions of wages, hours and conditions of work generally for the Dominion. Mr. G. Fenwick (Otago Daily Times) presented the employers' side of the case, and Mr. R. Ferguson that of the employees. The main point of the discussion during the day was the matter of dividing the Dominion into districts for the purpose of providing * differential rates of wages throughout the Dominion. It is understood that the present rates in the different districts will be maintained. A number of ma- ■ chinery clauses that would only affect the principal towns were considered. However, nothing was actually decided upon. The conference will resume tomorrow.
