TERRIBLE INJURIES. By Telegraph—Press Association. Waihi, Thursday. A miner, named Harry Bullock, while working at the Grand Junction Mine, received terrible injuries to his head, face and other parts of his 'body as the result of an explosion in the winze. Bullock was using a pick and struck an unexplodcd charge in a hole. He is not expected to recover. SUSPECTED POISONING. Auckland, Thursday. Thomas Brooking, aged 55 years, who was suffering from insomnia, died at Mangere last night. It is supposed that he died from the effects of a dose ol carbolic acid. Brooking was a recent arrival from Taranaki. AN AUCTIONEER SUICIDES. Wellington, Thursday. Joseph W. Braithwaite, in business in Wellington as an auctioneer for the past three years, shot himself in the side of the head about nine o'clock this mornin. He died in the hospital shortly before twelve. The tragedy occurred in'his own auction mart in Manners street, next to the Opera House. Deceased, who was a married man with n family, had been depressed of late. He was, formerly clerk of the Johnsonville Town Board. Ho contested the Wellington suburbs seat last general election.
