THE COMMITTEE REPLIES TO '
CRITICISMS. The Urenui school committee, tln^gh its chairman, has written to the ?J(?arffnaiki Education Board, as follows in?,Con< nection -with the recent report by/Mr. oc the school and surrounrliags: "I am instructed by my committee to thapk you for the health inspeetor's report 011 the Urenui school, which was sent 1 for our inspection. The committee feel thai the inspector might have let .the .chairman or some member of the committee know of his intended visit, as it is a matter that they, 'above all people, .should have known about. ,■ (1), Re light in infants' room.—The light in tkis room lias, been complained of by all assistant teachers for some time past, and the inspeetor's attention • drawn to it; also Dr. Frengley reported j on .the bad lighting in this room as j being very bad for the eyes. (2) The school is overcrowded when the attendance is- much over 100, especially the infant room. (3) Something ought to be done to the chimney in the infant room, as it still smokes. . i (4). .Excreta pit-s.—Tlie information supplied ,to the Health Inspector by ■ .the head:teacher about the excreta pits is i)ot, in. .aoconlance with the information, contained in his report, las the excreta, pits were only new 15 | months ago, and',with the use of lime are quite sanitary,and they are kept clean. The ■committer can't sec their way to adopt tl}e,pan system in a country [district, difficultv of obtaining Jaibor.
