COUNTIES' CONFERENCE
YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. The Counties' Conference, which opened to-day, Mr. Jull, of Waipawa, presiding, discussed a number of remits referring to the payment of Government grants. It was urged that the money should be paid over as soon as votes were passed by Parliament, in order that the work might be carried out at the proper time of the year. Several delegates complained that the system of paying out the grants in dribbles meant a waste of from *25 to 33 per cent, in clerical expenses. Eventually the whole question was referred to the committee to report to the conference.
