SMASHED TO MATCHWOOD.
SAILORS' NARROW ESCAPE. By Telegraph —Press Association. Wellington, Yesterday. While three sailors were painting the Maitai under the stern yesterday the boat got close to the propeller, just as the cngineroom staff, who were working on the main engines, decided to give the propeller a turn or two. The propeller was slowly turned, and the men, seeing their danger, jumped from the boat into the water. Although the propeller made only a couple of alow revolutions the boat was smashed to matchwood. The men were rescued uninjured.
