A special Political Labor League conference was held for the purpose of considering the attitude of members who • voted against or abstained from voting on the Federal referendum, also the question of the reconstruction of conferences ' with a view of reducing the> nuiriber of delegates. It was decided to exclude press men, with the exception of the accredited rcprcesntatives of the Labor prat. THE REFERENDUM FIASCO. A LIVELY CONFERENCE. MINISTERS ORDERED OFF THE PLATFORM. Received 23, 1.5 a.m. Sydney, August 22. The Labor Conference sat late. The proceedings were lively, and once or twice closely approached a scene, the president ordering Mr. Hughes, the acting-Premier, and several State Ministers, off the platform. Several motions, one for expelling offending members from the party, and others in favor of censuring or otherwise dealing with them, were discussed. Eventually the censure proposal was negatived by a large majority. A resolution was moved by Mr. Chris. Watson, and carried by a four-fifths majority, that in order to insure the solidarity of the party and to prevent a recurrence of the unsatisfactory position in connection with the recent Federal referenda, the conference directs that in future the executive refuse to endorse as a candidate any person who henceforth at a referendum opposes or fails to support the proposals submitted to the people by the Federal or State Labor parties, provided that such proposals have first been endorsed by an inter-State or New South Wales conference.
