HOY AIL PICTURES AND ORCHESTRA,
There was a large attendance at the Theatre Royal last night, and never before was a better programme put on than the one for the current week. A number of very fine pictures were screened, including the "Merchant of Venice." a beautifully colored Shakesperian drama, and "The Magic Fife," another gorgeously and well acted fairy play iby Pathe Freres. The marvellous feats of the Kromats, the most skilful acrobuts in Europe, came in for a great deal of applause. "Neighboring Kingdoms" and "The Burden Bearer" are two powerful dramas, and the comic portion of the programme is above the usual standard also. To-night will be the last opportunity the public will have of viewing this splendid selection of pictures, and to-morrow (Wednesday) anotha complete change will be shown. SAUNDERS' PICTURES. BOY SCOUTS' NIGHT. AVhiteley Hall was again well filled last night, and the current programme enthusiastically received. To-night Mt. Saunders is giving an entertainment' ftl aid of the Boy Scouts funds. Ticlfefe have been well pushed by the energetic Scouts and there is little doubt that the cosy hall will be .packed long before starting time to-night. Doors will he opened at 7.15 and only a limited number of tickets will be available. THE NEW EMPIRE THEATRE. Th« first instalment of up-to-date plant for the new theatre arrived on Saturday night in the shape of a Ganmont projector of the very latest model An important feature of the new machine is tho powerful arc lamp specially built Iby the Gaumont Co. to take 100 Aniperes. The new projector will be used at Waitarn on Wednesday night, •after which it will be on view at Colliers' Music Warehouse for a few days. The Westinghouse motor generator set is now being built to Mr. Saunders' order, and will arrive for the opening of the Empire Permanent Picture Theatre. Mr. Alf. Boothmnn, the nefcor will deliver the lectures in connection with the jjreat living picture success, "A Ticket in Tntt's," which is to be shown by the Tiiograph Pictures at Whiteley Tfall on Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, September 2, 4, and 5.
