BUTTER PROSPECTS
GOOD PRICES LIKELY. By Telegraph—Press Association. Palmerston N., Friday. The well-known London produce firm of Mills and Sparrow write as follows to their New Zealand agents on the butter prospects for the coming season: You will remember we mentioned that a few days back we had some rain, but now the dry weather, not only in England and Ireland, but also in Siberia and on the Continent, is again with us and continues. Continental supplies are decreasing, and we fully anticipate that this will be the case with the Home and the Irish make also, unless we get some alteration in the weather conditions. If we were to take the conditions as they stand to-day; we should be talking ail sorts of prices in the near- future, but, as we mentioned previously, conditions ohango so quickly that we hesitate to speate too strongly or become too optimistic. But while we endeavor to keep our optimism down as much as possible, yet we have to confess that we see no daylight ahead, or any lower prices for some considerable time. In fact, the reverse is the case; we look for higher prices than we arc making to-day, and we feel that every package of butter which is here on this side, and which' has been left over fnpm various steamers when the quantity coming to hand was in excess of the requirements, even though it is a secondary character, will be required, and when the fine butters which -we hope will soon be sent from the colonies come to band, then there will be an exceptional demand and good prices made. We think that everything points to the coming season being an exceptionally good one for our friends in the Australasian colonies. We neiver felt so confident as we do at the present moment as to the future of the colonial trade.
