"WOOLBROKERS" AND HORSERACING. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. William Scott and Henry Martindale were charged at the Magistrate's Court to-day with publishing a document which contained a notification as to betting on horse races to be run at Auckland in June. Receipt through the post of betting cards bearing the words "A B C" and accompanied by a card bearing the words "Scott and Martindale, woolbrokers, Wellington" was proved. Counsel for defence said the .point was who posted the cards. He contended that there was no evidence to connect the defendants with the publication. Judgment was reserved.
STUD RAMS. Ashburton, Last Night. At a clearing sale of the live stock of the late Mr. George Moßac today, two shearling Southdown rams, purchased by Mr. Mrßae as two-tooths from the late King's Sandringham flock, were purchased by Thos. Dowling, Springfield, at 71 guineas, and two ewes from the same flock were purchased iby G. Gardener, of Medbury, for 2G guineas each. INSTITUTE OF ACCOUNTANTS. . Palmerston N.. Last Night. A Palmerston North branch of the Now Zealand Society of Accountants was formed to-night. SEEDS SALE AND CONTROL. Duncdin, Last Night. The Chamber of Commerce decided today tosend a telegram to the Minister of Agriculture requesting that progress of the Seeds Sale and Control Bill be delayed for at least two or three weeks so that members of the trade throughout the Dominion might have time to confer regarding its requirements and lay its views before him.
