During the Marine Court enquiry concerning the loss of the Whangaroa the judge declared that instead of Captain Pearson being to blame he was to be highly commended. He did well to get the crew ashore. The crew also were worthy of great praise for the way in which they had worked together.

Mr. Tudor states that he will require a quarter of a million to modernise the quarantine system of the Commonwealth,' owing to its neglect since it was taken over from the States. He proposes to send a doctor on a tour of the world to inspect other systems.
