A NEW GROUND. By Telegraph—Press Association. Wellington, Last Night. The Wellington Football Association has decided to purchase a new ground at Kilibirnie for £9OO. A company is to be formed to control the ground, and «teps are to ibe taken to work up a movement to secure 3200 shareholders. WELLINGTON v. MAORIS. Wellington, Last Night. The match Wellington v. Maoris was played here to-day in fine weather. There was a moderate attendance. The wind was in favor of the Maoris in the first when they made a fair showing, but were on the defence most of the second half. For Wellington, Cooke, Tilyard, DaJy, Hills, Sullivan, and Sothoran scored. Mitchinson converting four tries, Vi a- the Maoris Grace scored, Rawhiri conferting. The game ended: Wellington 20, Maoris 5. Cooke's try was a brilliant effort. He secured the ball in his own 25, and beat the whole of the opposition in the face of a strong head wind.

REFEREES GO OX STRIKE. Auckland, Last Night. The Auckland Rugby Referees' Association went on strike this evening. The Referees' Association asked last week for a free hand in the appointments for club matches and for a consultation when appointments were being made for , rep. matches. The Auckland Union decided that the by-laws prevented the first request, but agreed to the liit'er. The actual cause of the strike is said to have arisen from a remark made by the secretary of the Auckland Rugby Ulion to the president of the Referees' Association regarding past appointments for rep. matches, and a withdrawal of this was demanded and refused. Hence the strike. A conference will be held to-morrow.

'SEVEN-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. The following are the High School teams for to-day's seven-a-side tournament:—A team: Bruce, Box, Giant, Ryder, Bayly, Goss, and Mulloy. B team: Day, Colson, Martin, N. Little, Baron, Grey, and Mander. Emergencies: Pott and A. Little.
